MATRIA — Cartographies of Care

Matria is a long-term artistic research project exploring genealogy, transmission, body and territory.

Drawing on knowledge, gestures and stories passed between women, the project brings past imaginaries into dialogue with bodies and experiences in the present. Rather than reconstructing memory, it seeks to activate and shift it through a contemporary gaze.

The research moves between documentary photography, situated practices and fabulation, incorporating walking, oral narratives, archives and gathering as ways of producing images and knowledge.

Through an expanded photographic practice, Matria explores the boundaries between document and fiction, the inherited and the imagined, giving form to what has remained unrepresented.
